You can either track individual responses to surveys and co-relate them back to the
respondent email address or collect anonymous responses. If you want to link
individual responses to email addresses, you have to send out the
Respondent Tracking URL in your email invitation.
If you do not want to co-relate email addresses with the individual
responses then use the Anonymous Survey URL.
Note: If you want to use the Resend and Reminder
features, you must use the Respondent Tracking URL.
Also, if you delete email addresses (from a particular group) or an email group
after distributing the survey to that group, then Respondent
Tracking for that group will not function correctly.
This is because, each survey invitation is associated with a particular email
address in the database. When the respondent completes the survey using the URL
emailed to him (survey invitation), the system does a lookup in the database for
the email address associated with the respondent. Since the email has been
deleted from the database, the lookup fails and the respondent information cannot
be recorded with the response (to the survey questions).
Goto:
- Login » Surveys » Send Survey » Send Email Invitation
You can edit the Email Invitation under Send Survey tab.

Under Send Email Invitation click on the Edit Email Invitation link. Under Edit Mode you can select one of the Two options:
- For tracking Respondents and linking their email address with their Response select the Track Respondents option from the Insert Survey Link drop menu.
- To collect responses anonymously select the Keep Respondents Anonymous option from the Insert Survey Link drop menu.

Including either the Respondent Tracking link: <SURVEY_LINK> or the Anonymous Survey Link: <ANONYMOUS_SURVEY_LINK> is mandatory. Please DO_NOT_INCLUDE the actual URL for the Survey. The correct URL will be automatically replaced in the tags.
Along with the Email addresses you can also track additional information using External Reference Variable and up to 5 Custom Variables. For information on External Reference Variable and Custom Variables please refer to the Custom Variables link below.
